CAORLE & BASSANO del GRAPPA

For those of you hanging out at the beach, we'd just like to say...WE WIN!

Today was our recovery day, as we jumped on the buses and headed for the beach in Caorle, Italy. The day began sort of gloomy, with rain speckling the windshield of the bus, and black clouds following us the whole way. But as we set up our blankets, the clouds parted and the sun came pelting down.

There was enough wind to keep us from melting and also for playing in the waves. Many of the students had never been in saltwater before, so it was quite the experience for some of them! For example, "AHHH! My eyes!!!", or "What the heck is that taste?" were some of the phrases uttered from the water today.

After some time in the water, the kids wandered through town in search of some Italian cuisine. Surprise of the day...most of them settled for PIZZA! Keep in mind, when you order a pizza for 5 Euro, you get your own pizza, not just a piece. And this is no ordinary pizza, but the sauce is freshly made from local tomatoes, with fresh herbs on top of delicious cheese and thin crust. It will be difficult to eat pizza once we're home. There's no "222" out here!

The kids attempted to play a game of soccer at one point, but it was so hot that they were unable to stand on the sand for more than a few seconds before running back into the shade. Needless to say, much of the day was spent reading under umbrellas, and playing in the waves.

A very sleepy group of students stumbled onto the buses at the end of the day and slept most of the way to our next stop at Bassano del Grappa, Italy. By the time we'd arrived, the sun burns had had enough time to emerge, and a cherry red group of students stepped off of the bus at a lovely hotel in an incredible new destination.

Following another exquisite Italian dinner, some students chose to catch up on some sleep, while others went on a scenic night walk. It was still lovely outside, and the locals seem to be enjoying our pins and our redness (the shirts...not our sun burned faces).

It will be nice for the kids to settle in at Bassano del Grappa, and we can't wait to play some music! In the next few days our musicians will be highlighting their talents in the town, and they are hoping to see an enthusiastic Italian crowd. Keep a close watch for the pictures and videos following the performances. Until then, keep fit, and have fun!
